After a never-ending and awful day, Lucia, in Trouble for Lucia, describes it as:
"Quite like that huge horrid book by Mr. James Joyce which all happens in one day."
That's the best description I've seen of Ulysses - a huge horrid book!

Paddy goes for a job on a building site. The manager says,"Before I can let you work here, you have to prove to me you know something about the building trade. For instance, can you tell me the difference between a girder and a joist?"
ReplyDeletePaddy thinks for a minute then says, "Well now, oi don't know what it's got to do with the building trade, but I'd say the main difference between them is that Goete wrote Faust, and Joyce wrote Ulysses!
